Supporting Acquisitions & Mergers

Legal Services Act 2007

The Legal Services Act 2007 is set to impact significantly on the profession. The speed of change may be debated, particularly in the current economic climate, but the change itself cannot be ignored.

However, as well as threats in the form of increased competition, new opportunities will be created also. It is a popular viewpoint there will be more mergers within the mid-sized and larger firms, wanting to exploit the economies of scale, and more diversification amongst smaller firms, keen to move away from the commoditised work-types due to its highly competitive, cost conscious nature. In both sectors however, the drive for optimum efficiency and productivity, through thorough adoption of IT will be of paramount importance.

At SOS, we have spent the last three years developing our latest software, specifically designed to meet the challenges and exploit the opportunities that lay ahead. We are already seeing these changes starting to happen, with our involvement in an increasing number of mergers in the mid sector. Our highly expert team of data conversion specialists and business process managers are working with firms now, to ensure both smooth data conversions for the newly-merged firms. This of course needs to be undertaken with minimal interruption on the firms’ day to day operations, something that requires skill and expertise. Our workflow consultants are also greatly involved with clients; both teams working together on the re-engineering of the business processes to exploit the software functionality to the full.

Add-on functions like postcode integration and full telephone/software integration, previously seen as ‘nice-to-have’ by some firms, are now vital components of the overall solution as we work with firms to implement real change in relation to how their staff and teams fundamentally work.

Whether through merger or acquisition, law firms can suddenly find themselves doubled in size overnight, and so fast implementation and deployment of an appropriate solution needs to be provided. This requires a supplier whom they can have complete faith in them being able to deliver the project as planned. SOS has been providing sophisticated, full transaction-level conversions for 20 years, including complex multi-system amalgamations of previously separate systems. In all those years, SOS has never once failed to complete a conversion on time and to budget.

If your firm is planning growth or change in the future, talk to SOS now about how we can support your plans fully, with our rapid deployment programme, flexible licencing terms, and extremely scaleable solutions to support even the most ambitious plans.
