New practice management system for lawyers on the move

Solicitors Own Software (SOS) has launched a powerful new practice management solution that frees lawyers from their desktops and enables them to work remotely.

Software developed by the Bath-based legal systems solution provider is currently used by more than 400 law firms throughout the UK - including several ‘Top 100’ firms – and has a 100% installation success record.

The company’s new innovation - SOS Connect - is an integrated practice and matter management system which can be accessed by a firm’s lawyers, partners and support staff wherever they have an internet connection. This means they can work from home or a client’s office - or even on the move with a wireless laptop.

SOS won a £135,000 department of Trade and Industry SMART award to help develop Connect which features the latest online technology to provide both remote and office-based workers with full access to the system.

As users only require an internet connection to access the new software, this means multi-branch law firms no longer need expensive leased lines to link their offices in order to roll out the software across the entire business.

“Our Connect software offers law firms the most flexible and versatile IT system which in turn enables their staff to be more efficient and effective, wherever they may be,” said SOS managing director Michael Platt

“What is particularly impressive is that this remote operation of the software is not merely a trimmed-down version with limited functionality, but one that provides the full functions as you would gain from being at your desk in the office.

“The system also goes one-step further for remote operation, allowing fee earners, for example, to work on their case loads offline. The information is automatically uploaded to the firm’s central database the next time their laptop or PC is attached to the office network.

“But that’s not all – we can customise desktops to suit different fee earners within the same firm, matching their needs exactly.”

SOS Connect includes a host of new features and functions, including a unique scripting service, which enables a firm to build particular workflow processes within the software, much like a case management system, but far simpler and quicker to deploy.

Connect users can also take advantage of SOS’s powerful new OLAP (On Line Analytical Processing) reporting software, which helps law firms improve decision-making by providing instant access to real-time performance indicators.
